Dallas Restaurant and Bar – Open Rice Invite

My foodie adventures have so far brought me to great places where I had the chance to enjoy delightful brunches, oriental food and some western fare. However, something has always been lacking. I love meat and my guess is a lot of people do too but our weekly itinerary would somehow or rather miss places that serve the kind of true blue authentic meat dishes. On came Open Rice with their Open Rice Tasty Union #26 invite. The event I would say was timely and the outcome checked many boxes on my wish list.

Dallas Restaurant and Bar was really generous for this food tasting event. Their finger food platter and 6 main dishes filled our guts to its brim which left us rubbing out bellies in glee.

Finger Food

First up were the Lamb Sliders and Chicken Quesadillas. The lamb sliders were served together with mini burgers and Dallas Fries. I thought the whole concept was quite cute. The mutton was succulent and the chef was able to mask the odour often associated with this kind of meat.

The chicken breast meat was finely diced. Combined with a savoury mixture of cheese and mixed spices and finally wrapped with a thin tortilla, the Chicken Quesadillas was really a treat to behold. The  side condiments of Guacamole and sour cream complemented the dish really well.

Breaded Mushrooms

If there is a dish that is both appetizing and convenient to consume, it has to be Dallas’ signature Salt and Pepper Calamari and Breaded Mushrooms. These little wonders, exquisitely placed in little square porcelain wares were different in every aspect from those that I have tried at various bars.

The secret to their great tasting calamari is the length of time used for the seasoning and marinating process. 12 full hours. It was also revealed to us that unlike conventional calamari, this one here was flash fried so that it retains the smooth texture of the squid.

The Breaded Mushrooms did not pale in comparison. Each bite revealed juicy goodness from the mushrooms embedded in the bread dough.

Pork ribs never tasted so good with the serving of Alabama Pork Ribs. Drizzled with sweet chili BBQ sauce, the tender meat was a delight. It was also helped by the fact that it was not overly greasy. The Chicken Tikka with Coriander Mint Sauce was also scrumptious, not too oily and chargrilled to perfection.

Main Course

If there is one thing that I should mention about the two dishes shown above (Chicken Penne Pasta and Crunchy Honey Mustard Bacon Salad), it’s the Parmesan Cheese. It’s really incredible. Full of flavour and very aromatic.

No kidding, this is the real serving of the Avocado Chicken Parmigiana. Gigantic but it was joy to consume.

I don’t take beef but from the looks our my friends I made that day, I could tell that the Southern Burger is one that cannot be missed. Come on, look at that thick chunky beef patty and tell me you are not drooling.

Again, for beef and chicken lovers, the Fajitas is a melting pot of many flavours. Served with guacamole, sour cream, salsa, re-fried beans, caramelized onions and warm flour tortillas.

The best was served the last. In my opinion, Berry and Fiery Pork Ribs represented the best of both worlds. Half of the ribs were glazed with sweet berry sauce while the other was dipped in a spicy condiment.

Situated a Boat Quay, I think Dallas Restaurant and Bar offers a great atmosphere for those seeking for after-work winding down activities. These food coupled with a beer in hand, you can think of nothing but paradise.
