Groupon deals are a hit or miss kind of affair. Sometimes you get a good deal, sometimes you do not. You win some and you lose some. But when things do not turn out the way you thought it should be, be thankful that you still paid a discounted price.
Over the weekend, we dined at Covelli Italian Bistro and Wine Bar located at Orchard Central. To put it simply, we were not exactly pleased with the outcome.
At $24.00, we expected the appetizer, Capesante E Gemberi to be a delight. However, we were disappointed because the prawns were really tiny, they were no different from your normal food centre fare. Furthermore, it was dry and was devoid of succulence. The scallop only fared slightly better.
Despite a bad start, we thought their signature Covelli Zuppa Di Funghi($14.00) was delicious. The soup was made up of generous bits of finely diced mushrooms. Very aromatic.
Boy, the Kurobuta Pork Belly($28.00) did not agree with our taste buds as well. It was not totally bad to be honest. But the Korobuta was not juicy. In fact, it was tough, not tender.
Merluzzo Con Asparagi($34.00) did not fare well either. The cod fish usually exudes sweetness with every bite. The same cannot be said of this dish, which was rather plain. The cod on offer was really poor.
The only one thing worth complimenting about their dishes was that their sauces were actually appetizing. However, this does not cover up their shortcomings. Perhaps the dishes would have gone well with their wine which they fervently promote to you. I do not know. But we were thankful that we bought vouchers for this restaurant because the dinner we had here certainly did not come cheap and by the looks of things, it certainly was not worth it.
By the way, I am trying to be objective and this is no complaint post! 🙂
