20th Anniversary of Grunge

"it's better to burn out than fade away"
"I'm so happy because today I found my friends - they're in my head"

The grunge movement at present, can be aptly described as a moribund fish out of water. However, backtrack 20 years, Nirvana did the seemingly impossible by knocking Michael Jackson off the top spot of Billboard Top 200 with their magnum opus. And the rest, as they say is history.

This week marks the 20th anniversary of the release of Nevermind, the album that made everyone stand up and take notice of Kurt Cobain and his motley crew. I was only 5 when the album was first released. Of course, I wasn’t able to fully comprehend the seismic effect the record brought about in 1991.

The 20th anniversary edition of Nevermind not only reminds us of how Nirvana propelled alternative rock to mainstream success but it also highlights the lack of musical savants plying their trade in the current music scene.

For now, let us put on our flannel shirts and reminisce to the soft/loud dynamic tunes of Nirvana.

Oh well, whatever, nevermind.
